Most people don’t realize that they can improve the appearance of their smile without having to undergo expensive or long, drawn-out cosmetic dental treatments. Our Barrington, IL, cosmetic dentists, Drs. Douglas, Chase and Connor Pennino, are here to tell you how a simple, non-invasive solution known as dental bonding could finally turn your smile around without breaking the bank.

What is dental bonding?

This easy cosmetic solution uses a tooth-colored resin (the same material used to fill a cavity), which is easily moldable and can be applied and shaped around dental imperfections to improve the color, shape, size or overall appearance of one or more teeth.

It’s important to acknowledge that because dental bonding is an easy, inexpensive and non-invasive approach to cosmetic dentistry it won’t be able to tackle more serious dental problems; however, minor cracks, chips, stains and other imperfections that affect the appearance of your smile can be addressed with this aesthetic option. Bonding can even fill little gaps between teeth and make short, worn teeth appear longer to give you a more even smile.

How does bonding work?

Once our Barrington dentists have examined your mouth and determined that not only is your smile healthy enough for treatment but also that the dental flaws you are looking to fix can be improved through this technique, we will choose the shade of the resin so that it blends in with the rest of the tooth.

Once the resin color is chosen we will apply and sculpt it over the front of the tooth. After shaping and trimming the resin, once it’s thoroughly blended in we will use a special dental light to harden the bonding resin into place. Once this happens, the resin and tooth have become one.

How long does bonding last?

A major factor with regards to the longevity of your dental bonding resin has to do with your oral care. Besides making sure that you maintain good oral hygiene, it’s also important that you visit us every six months so that we not only thoroughly clean teeth and remove plaque and bacteria but also to check your bonding resin to make sure that it doesn’t need to be replaced. The average longevity of bonding resin is about 10 years.

Dental bonding is a great option for many people who want to make subtle changes to their smile. Are you next? Let’s find out! Schedule your no-risk consultation with Pennino Family Dentistry in Barrington, IL, today.
